Operation management of Tom Pulling Toys - Essay Example The intention of this study is Tom Pulling Toys as a global manufacturer of educational toys. Its toys are being manufactured in China and sold in the European and US markets. However, due to rising competition and increasing customer complaints, the company is in a spot of bother. To tackle the situation the company is planning to adopt Total Quality Management practices in its operations. As a starting step, the company has decided to use Statistical Process Control at one of its doll manufacturing lines. For this, data collection has been done over a 30 day period. The data collection has been done from the point of view of colouring defects and the height of dolls as these were the two areas the customers complained about. As an output of the analysis on the collected data, the company needs to know whether its processes are in control. The company also needs recommendations in case the processes are not in control. For the first set of data regarding the number of colour defecti ves, firstly the mean number of defectives is calculated. C-chart is the most suitable chart for this purpose since it is used when number of defects or errors is given and the size of sample (here 200) is constant. Using the mean the two 3 sigma control limits are established as: Lower Control Limit (LCL) = c bar – 3 * (c bar)^.5 Upper Control Limit (UCL) = c bar + 3 * (c bar)^.5 The minimum value of Lower Control Limit can be 0. Hence, a negative value for the same is replaced by 0. The mean number of defectives, LCL and UCL are obtained as 6.033, 0 and 13.402 respectively. C-chart is plotted using the number of defectives and control limits. The same is shown in Figure 2.1. However, since only 1 out of 30 points lies outside, it can be removed by outlier analysis. For the second data set, x bar and R charts are appropriate. For R chart, the ranges are calculated for each of the 30 samples. Mean range or R bar is then computed as an average of these ranges. Educational tour offers an opportunity for a rich immersion experience, and a tremendous way to facilitate learning. In an educational tour, students have the chance to experience and explore much deeper level than they ever could in the classroom. Therefore, the North Point College of Arts and Technology, Inc. (NPCAT) conducted an Educational Tour last October 29 – 30, 2012 at Davao City. The school rented five (5) vans to occupy almost 90 persons. It includes the 3rd year students in IT, EET, HRS & HCS and NPCAT Facilitators. I belonged in the No. 3 van together with my co-afternoon class session. Before we went to Davao, I conducted a prayer to ask God’s protection in our trip. We arrived at our first establishment, the Ateneo De Davao University (ADDU) at around 8:00 – 8:30 A.M. We have been divided into two groups by Ma’am Novie Joy Pelobello. The first group where I belong went to their Integrated Systems Laboratory. Ma’am Nadela, the in-charge of the said laboratory, first introduced their networking equipment such as the different types of series of routers. She also introduced to us the LEGOÂ ® MINDSTORMSÂ ® robots made from NXT Technology. As what she discussed, NXT is the brain of a MINDSTORMSÂ ® robot. It’s an intelligent, computer-controlled LEGOÂ ® brick that lets a MINDSTORMSÂ ® robot come alive and perform different operations. These robots have these following features; first, the Touch Sensor that gives the robot sense of touch. It detects when it is being pressed by something and when it is released again. Second is the Ultrasonic Sensor that gives your robot ability to see and detect objects. You can also use it to make your robot avoid obstacles, sense and measure distance, and detect movement. It was created to bring both students and teachers into a high-technology enrollment, evaluation and information system in a convenient way. The students will be no longer go to the registrar and fall in line just to take an enrollment or get a grade. Instead, they will just go to the website of ADDU then log in their account. It is owned by the very talented and creative Mr. Rey Erwin Rubio. They are composed of young, creative, and dynamic team that specializes in graphics design, website development, photography and animation. They uses the following softwares; WordPress, CorelDraw, Autodesk 3D Max and Adobe After Effects. They’re serving clients from Australia, Singapore, Sweden, and the US. The quality service they render becomes their reputation and holds essential component as they grow. We took our lunch at Edong’s Restaurant located at Km. 5 J.P. Laurel Avenue, Bajada, Davao City. Our seventh destination was in Sutherland Global Services. They discussed the overview of their company and showed to us their working stations and laboratory. The Shrine is surrounded by lush greenery of tall trees and manicured grasses. Then we went to Jack’s Ridge Resort & Restaurant Corporation. In William Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew, it is an epic battle of the sexes. In the era that this play was written (Elizabethan), women were told what to do, how to act, and who to be. That is why Katherine is such a fascinating yet confusing character in this play. In this piece, the protagonist Kate is very complex and has many different, unique sides to her personality, which is frowned upon in this time. Before Katherine even spoke in this play she was this horrible, shrewish girl. When introduced to Katherine at the beginning of the play she is a smart mouth girl with a horrible temper. She is not afraid to freely express herself which often leads to her being very outspoken or violent. After meeting her husband (that only wanted to wed her because of the dowry he would receive) those characteristics begin to change. It is only then that we start to see a much softer, pleasant side to Kate. It is Petruchio who provokes her slow, but sincere transformation. She b ecomes more â€Å"tame† as some would say and without a doubt, Katherine goes through a very large attitude change. At the end of the play, Kate’s friends and family are appalled by her miraculous change. They believe that Petruchio is the reason for this.
